11/8/2018 0 Comments How to write yoga in chineseI am also collecting data on yoga in China. It is interesting how in China, 'yoga' is spelt 瑜伽 yújiā and in Japan it is also spelt the same in the dictionary, but everyone uses either the english spelling or the katakana forms of either ヨガ or ヨーガ (it depends on whether someone knows or wants to represent the longer vowel of Sanskrit in yōga, as opposed to yoga... anyways, 瑜伽 is 2 words combined and it means - jewel (yo 瑜) + nursing/attending/entertainer (ga 伽) - in the chinese dictionary the two words are parsed as 瑜 yú - excellence, luster of gems and 伽 jiā - traditionally used as phonetic for 'ga'.
I'm wondering how yoga is translated into your language. Write me, if you feel inclined. If you want to learn the stroke order, click on each character: 瑜 and 伽
